Exploring incredible places
through the people
who know them best.
Destinations is a video series where I fly over incredible places with the people who know them best—exploring what makes each destination special through local knowledge, personal stories, and a perspective you can only get from the sky.
The series creates a completely different environment for storytelling. Memories surface differently in the air. Landscapes become part of the conversation. And places are experienced in a way that feels personal, emotional, and visually unforgettable. Real stories, told in a way only the sky makes possible.
Destination Spotlight:
Sun Valley Idaho
In this episode of Destinations by Backseat Stories, I take off from Friedman Memorial Airport with Pat Lee of Silver Creek Outfitters to experience Sun Valley in the fall—a time when the crowds begin to quiet, the colors change, and the surrounding landscape takes on an entirely different character.
We follow the Big Wood River north through the Wood River Valley, talking about one of the things that makes Sun Valley so special: just how much is accessible within a short distance of town. From the Big Wood, we climb over Trail Creek and into the Lost River system, passing the Pioneer Mountains and the remote waters of Copper Basin. In a matter of minutes, the landscape shifts from neighborhoods and backyard fishing to rugged peaks, high-country valleys, and seemingly endless open space.
From there, we turn south toward Silver Creek, where the mountains give way to farmland and cold, spring-fed water winds through the valley floor. With fall colors below us and Pat sharing the places he knows from years on the water, the flight reveals just how much variety surrounds Sun Valley—and how closely connected it all is. More than a story about fly fishing, it’s a look at fall in Sun Valley through a local’s eyes, using the rivers and landscape to show just how much there is to experience right outside your door.
A FORMAT ALL ITS OWN
Destinations sits somewhere between documentary, podcast, adventure film, and destination storytelling—but the perspective changes everything.
The conversations happen while flying above the very landscapes being discussed. Mountains, rivers, coastlines, neighborhoods, and landmarks become part of the conversation in real time, creating a natural connection between the person, their story, and the place below.
There are endless ways to tell the story of a destination, but very few begin in the air, in conversation with someone who truly knows the place. The result is something spontaneous, cinematic, and genuinely different—a good story first, with the destination naturally woven throughout it. Real people. Meaningful places. A perspective only the sky can provide.
COLLABORATIONS
Destinations is built around creative collaboration. I work with destinations and local participants to find interesting people, meaningful places, and stories worth sharing. Together, we explore what makes a place special and create an episode that feels authentic to the people and landscape.
Every story is different, and the process is intentionally simple, flexible, and collaborative—from identifying the story and planning the flight to sharing the finished episode.
